I probably should be waiting to ask this question until after I receive the plans for the Nutmeg in the mail, because I expect they will give the answers I am looking for! Let's just say that I am getting more and more excited as I am reading the comments and discussion on this Forum. And like a kid before Christmas, my curiosity is killing me. So, here goes...
I have seen pictures of The Nutmeg with sunfish sails... and they look nice, but there appears to be almost no clearance for a line-of-sight, or for boom swing across the boat. I am hoping to build my own sail for my boat (in fact, this is one area my sewing wife hopes to contribute to the project). I am wondering if there are a variety of sail designs and boom configurations given in the plans... and if so, do some of them provide more clearance? And if so, are there some pictures on the web somewhere of different sail configurations on Nutmeg boats I could view?
Thanks for your input. This is getting fun! Can't wait to get started!

If you sit on the botom on a cushion (no thwarts) there is no problem with headroom for the lateen boom. The wide open cockpit with a box to sit on for rowing gives the most room.

| Here is a picture of a NUTMEG built by Dennis Marshall that shows the sail plan that comes with the plan packet. Note the higher boom placement. Attachment: NUTMEG Sail.jpg (Downloaded 165 times)

Thanks for sending along the notes... and the pic, Tom. It's very helpful to see what the sail and boom plans are that come with the boat. Looks like fun! Thanks again.

| I am happy to see that picture of my old boat. I sold that boat to a friend a few years ago and built a Dobler 16 I read about in T. F. Jones' "Boats to Go." It is my good fortune that I will be getting the Nutmeg back this week. I'll need to patch the sail and fix the leeboard, but I will have it on the water by week's end. I have fond memories of sailing it (I learned to sail on this boat), and am looking forward to getting it back. It was a very fun boat to sail. -- Dennis Marshall

I have a Sunfish sail rig that I would like to use and plan to make a new mast to get the boom up a bit. Should be the best of both worlds.
