We are in the midst of building the Nutmeg, and have decided we will go all the way, and buy sail cloth, and attempt to make our own sail. We have the plan, and it says that the square footage of the sail is 76... and I see the dimensions. I am just having a hard time determining exactly how muchb sail material we will need to buy.

The material we are looking at is 36" wide.

Can anyone tell me how many yards of the material we will need to buy?

Also, is the sail sown perfectly flat? Or, is it sown in such a way that there is a slight bow in the shape of it as the wind fills it?

I look forward to hearing your answers.

Lay out 36" wide strips on the sail plan. Measure the sum of their lengths. Add at least 10% for hems. Original SUNFISH sales were cut flat until Phantoms started beating them. Then they went to cutting them with a shape. The roaches (deviation from straight sides) shown on the sail plans will automatically give you some shape.
