Hello to all,

I just beveled the bottom of the transom and held it up to the cut out sides. Seems I need more bevel, that is the aft edge of the transom hangs about 1/8" below the chine.

I re-checked my side layout, it's good.

Has anyone else encountered this?

thanks!

Off the top of my head:

1. Were the sides bent together when you checked it?  They curve upward at the ends, producing the hull bottom rocker from being bent around the angled frames.

2.  Are you sure you measured the angle off the correct surface?  It's really easy to get this wrong.  I've done it on several boats.

3.  Did you note the explanation in the plans about the discrepency between Bolger's plans and Dave's?

More on this later, when I've had a chance to look over my plans.

hey,. sorry for my lag, I must have unsubscribed ...

1. No, I was just holding it alongside before I fastened the sides, transom, and stem.

2. I am pretty sure I measured the angle off the correct surface. It is really easy to get this wrong. After gluing up the sides to the frames, transom and stem, I made notes of what bevels I'd use on the next build, for both the stem and transom. The angles I got and the numbers on the protractor were way too different until the light came on:subtract from 90!

3. I just made a note that there is an explanation in the plans about the discrepency between Bolger's plans and Dave's.

I figured it would be close enough (it is, I'm happy), and needed to get the hull glued up and out of the garage to make room for firewood.

I didn't want to take the time to cut it all out, assemble it dry and then re-cut anything that didn't work.I just got the gunwales epoxied yesterday.

For the next one, I'll go with a bit thicker stem and about 3/16" wider transom, and start earlier in the Spring so I'll have the time to dry fit everything.
