The Nutmeg plans show the distance between the leeboard and the mast as 3'-4+1/2" on centers. I want to move the mast forward to allow for more clearance near the stern. I also intend to install a daggerboard instead of a leeboard. Measuring from the mast aft, how much can I stretch the original measurement and not develope a weather or lee helm?? Is there any other way to mitigate either of those problems. Would a skeg help at all??. Any and all suggestions appreciated

I've seen a slotted rubrail that could offer some flexibility to adjust a leeboard fore or aft from the conventional beam position. Then your preferred weather helm could be "dialed in".
My question regarding this lee/weather helm issue is this: isn't the center of sail force going to shift as we head up or bear away?
