Greetings,

I have just purchased a used Sunfish and am new to sailing.  Along the edges of the hull there are a couple of places where the fiberglass has chipped away.  Nothing too serious, but was wondering what to use to repair these places.  I know the previous owner has sailed it the way it is with no problem, but I'd like to do something about them before I put it in the water.  What is the most practical and easiest way to make this type of repair???

Hi Rob,

I have used a product called Marine-Tex. Its' an epoxy putty you mix with an hardner (all inclusive in the box) to fill chips, dings etc. on a wood, fiberglass or a metal hull. Works well but you may have to figure a way to get the shine back if you repair gell coat. I have used those little paint bottles (color match - close) found at auto repair stores to paint over the sanded faired-out Marine-Tex with some success.

MarineTex comes in white (a little off-white really) and a black or maybe it should be called carbon grey. If you have a clean, sound surface to put it into, it works pretty well since it's a two-part epoxy.
