We love to kayak in the protected waters of Coastal BC. One of our favorite destinations is Desolation Sound (it's actually very beautiful) north of Powell River. We learned to kayak at Powell River Sea Kayaks located in Okeover Inlet just a short paddle away from Desolation Sound. We also rented kayaks from Y-Knot a little further up the inlet. When we decided to purchase one of our own we went back to PR Sea Kayak and got a good deal on one of their used models. A great guide to the area isSea Kayak Desolation Sound & the Sunshine Coast by Heather Harbord. It is available from Amazon.com or Amazon.ca. Another book about the area is Up the Strait by Wayne J. Lutz also available at Amazon.com. Other great locations for kayaking are in the Gulf Islands. Last summer we took our big "yellow banana" on top of our car to Thetis Island to explore several marine parks and camp. hey there, ya I know exactly what your talking about when it comes to protected waters... I grew up at our cabin on savary.. Oh boy what a backyard we have eh!
I decided to purchace my first boat this past summer. 20ft bayliner, along with a small inflatable tender to throw in the cuddy. Now I don't have to mess with the strupid BC ferries.. He He!
Along with the inflatable tender I bought, I had purchaced my sea kayak from a great site. You can find everything for your kayaking needs...
You've got that right. Great area to boat and kayak. We went over from Lund to Savary for a swim on the sandy beach. Nice. Thanks for the link - I checked it out. -- Margy
