Hello all,
well i am a newbie as far as boats go and am planning to buy my first row boat. Since i don't want to put much money in it and i will be boating in a lake and not in sea, i am looking for an inflatable raft kind of thing for 4 people .
I was checking the walmart site and they have one for $38 dollars but i don't know how reliable is the quality.
Can anybody pls suggest me some brands, i am willing to pay around 100 to 120 dollars.
Thanks in advance .

| You usually get whay you pay for, and you'll need a small miracle to find anything remotely safe and acceptable for four in your price range. For two, I'd say you would have a chance at a used canoe -- probably not a nice one, but something, at least. The cheapest boat for four would probably be an old used 12' aluminum skiff, and unfortunately it won't row very well, and would be crowded w/ 4, and probably still over your budget. Or you could try the inflatable; just don't go farther from shore than you can swim and don't expect it to last very long -- but at $38, it might be an instructive experience -- or just frustrating, depending on one's perspective.

For cheap boats in your area, try craigslist
Following is a link to some whitewater rafts, but these are serious equipment beyond your needs and price range, I presume.

Hi Bhargav:
Only my 2 cents worth, but for $38 you barely have enough to purchase a good quality life jacket.
I've been on the water for a long time and have seen some crazy things, don't risk you life or that of you fellow crew members. You can't put a price on someones safety. Those $38 Wal Mart or Department store boats are basically meant for someones swimming pool. Why not re think your idea, spend a little more money and really enjoy the sport for many years to come. Do you homework on rowing, an aluminum boat with lots of beam will not row well, An inflatable will not row at all, you'll expend a lot of energy and go nowhere, especially if you have people with you. It will feel like your in a water bed. Depending on the area you live in you can start with a used Sportsal square sterned Canoe. They have capacity for up to 3 people, you can paddle them, so so, or row them for a short distances OK. with assisatance you can car top them. Also Old Town has a polyethelene version that will do the same. If you want to check out what a true rowing skiff is all about google "SKUA" or Middle Path Boats in PA. There you will find a wealth of Rowing information.
Be Safe, and remember "COLD WATER KILLS"
