I am looking for a row boat of sorts that has a sliding seat rower or a boat that I could add one to. I am interested in getting some exercise. I have a gheenoe that i can paddle for fishing and hunting. I think it can be converted to oar locks and oars but I don't believe it will get me the exercise I am looking for.
Appreciate any help.

Hello wldtang,
There are all kinds or row boats and some small boats that can be adapted to rowing. The sliding seat types are more specialized and generally are long, narrow with over length oars; the combination creates a fast human powered boat. However, these boats take some experience to get the most out of them, are tough to turn when pinched for room, and can be expensive to purchase.
A compromise might be the kit boats from Wayland Marine. The Merry Wherry Kits might do the job ending up with a boat that is fast, can carry beach camping gear, AND gets that sliding seat without too lengthy oars. These boats have even rowed/ cruised Alaska shores!

Hi ROW4EVR,
Thanks for your quick response. I had looked at the wayland site and was impressed with the looks of their kits. I guess I was looking for an easier way. I just wasn't sure that I was wanting to build a boat right now though it would be very rewarding plus it would be a lot cheaper than many of the others already built. I greatly appreciate your comments and if you or anyone should come up with another solution I would greatly appreciate your comment. I may just try to install oars on my gheenoe for now for the exercise until I can make a final decision.
Have a great evening,

| Anyone ever row with the kits where the oar locks slide and the seat stays still?
