2nd time around here. guess the first time didn't work for some reason. I am the proud new owner of my first boat. My grandfather (original owner) has given me his old 1967 16' tahiti speed boat. It has a mercury keikhafer 1100SS O/B (110 HP) Now it is rumored to be the very last tahiti to roll off of the Redding Ca assembly line before they closed their doors in '67. First off I am trying to find out if this is true. Also I am trying to find out the model of this boat (ie tahiti rocket or tahiti speedster) Something like that or is it just a tahiti? Maybe someone who knows the tahiti line a little better can answer this question? I searched the web to find a tahiti forum for tahiti enthusiasts but found nothing. Can anybody steer me in the right direction?
Well I did find out that Tahiti was originally manufactured by Shasta Boats which used to be right down the road from me here in Redding. My Gpa never took care of her and she sat outside uncovered for 40 years until I got her. The boat has been neglected pretty badly. The interior is rotted beyond repair so I gutted her and put in a new floor. After the gelcoat went to hell from sun exposure ( I could kick him!) he had it painted 2 times so I am stripping it all back down to the glass and starting over. Since the gelcoat is tore back I can't restore the original luster (plum purple with big bass boat sparkle) so I will paint it again. But this time she will be covered. I am going with a white base color and adding sapphire blue flames over the bow and down the side. When that is all done I will mix some blue pearl in with the clear so it should shimmer pretty in the sun. Then it's on to the interior. I'm gonna have to start from scratch and build new seats and have them covered. Most people would have cut her up long ago but it is a labor of love for me and a tribute to my Gpa. I do have a pic but this website won't load it. Here is a link to photobucket.com and pics of the boat. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b127/Badscirocco/Picture003.jpg
The Tahiti Papeete mission and the members of Tahiti. A number of years ago I made such a collection on CD. Latest information for the upcoming Tahiti Temple dedication and cultural event.
