Was looking in the "news" section and to my suprise I found the three boats I have been considering. Atkin's Ninigret, Gardner's simi dory and Luther Tarbox's Baby Blue.

The Ninigret is too large for my use even though it is an appealing design. Last week I received a copy of Gardner's The Dory Book. I can not find any information on the speed and performance of this boat. I have tentatively ruled it out because it appears to have inadequate speed for our needs.  Am now awaiting the arrival of the Baby Blue information. My needs are very similar to Mr. Tarbox's. Also in the Gulf of Mexico about 150 miles east of the late Mr. Tarbox's home.  Our (the wife and mine) playground is Apalachicola Bay Florida. A large, shallow, windswept bay behind a series of offshore islands. The distances are great and the bay is whitecapped most of the time. I tried our sixteen foot bass boat. The low sides and heavy weight does not a bay boat make. There are several modern designs that would be adequate. However I would like an older design to go with our beautifully restored Johnson outboard. Contrary to most people's needs, we want a fast boat. The subtropic climate and almost instant afternoon thunder storms are not to be easily dismissed. I would appreciate information of other designs that meet this criteria.

A new species of Coast Guard boat that has become common in the bay since 9/11. The small, high-speed boat with a machine gun in the bow.
