| Apparently there was Mr. Sangster who made Sangstercraft boats in the 1960s. But that ended when he passed away. His son Mr. Sangster Jr. (don't know first name) wanted to go into the boat building business, but could not find any plans or anything of his fathers. So according to my source, the boat "Sansgter" orginally started when Mr. Sangster Jr. took a 17' runabout plan from Searay and built 3 boats based on it. My source knows this because he bought the 3rd boat built in 1972 in Richmond BC. I'm not sure when Sangster went out of business but I think it was in the ealry 80s when there was the fiberglass crisis. I do know that Sangstercraft and Sangster was always built in the Vancouver area, but also had some operation in the Okanagan.

Just joined this forum and was interested in the Sangstercraft thread. I found a boat in field just south of Lakefield Ontario last Saturday. Its maker's plate identifies it as a 1961 Sangstercraft Rideau. The emblem on the dash says "Sangstercraft Toronto". A number of people have indicated that these boats were only made out west in BC. Does the emblem on the boat I saw mean that it was made out west and distributed through a Toronto rep.? This baot is literally a shell. There is a small tree growing out of the floor but the hull and deck are intact and most of the fittings are there. I'm hoping it will come as a freebie. It has a nice barrel tapered stern and sharp deep-V hull. Any info on the eastern Sangstercraft connection would be appreciated.

| hi everyone. got a 1961 17' sangstercraft given to myself and a freind a couple of months ago. needed a lot of work, floor ribs , floors, transom, some minor fiberglass work, and paint. oh yah, seats too! almost done now, painted it last week, going to put seats in this weekend. anyone know how big of an engine the limit is for this boat. vin #6155. i'll try to post some pics of this boat, very unusual design. like an idiot, no before pics. too bad too, there was moss and mold on the outside, and the floor was completly rotten.

Have not got around to painting the boat or the trailer, but installed seats, motor, controlls and stereo (important stuff). I thought I should try the boat before any more work was put into it, and it worked great! Hopefully more progress to follow as time permits.
