| HI : I am keeping my Honda 2 hsp 4 stroke OB engine on my small sailboat incase I need to use it when sailing this Winter. I plan to store it under the deck on its side. During the summer, the last time I used it I kept it on the back of the boat in upright position until the water drained from the unit & then I stored it below . Will I need to do any special maintenance on the engine if I keep it on the boat all Winter in Brooklyn NY . I think the engine is air cooled ? Please advise ! Thanks , Bill

Yearly maintenance is still a necessity.
Even if you call it winterizing.

Sorry you missed the point of my posting ! I am not asking if I need to winterize the motor & store it for the winter ? i know the answer to that Q.
I am leaving my Honda 2 hsp ,4 stroke ,air cooled OB on the boat below the deck on its side ready to be used if I need it . I plan to sail on the ocean in Brooklyn NY during the Winter & use the motor on rare occaison.
Do I need to perform any special maintenance other than draining the water out of the unit after running ,pulling the plug & fogging with oil to insure it will run all Winter ?
Pleas advise only if you have experienced specific info that will help me .. Thanks , Bill

Hi : I contacted Honda & got the answers to to my original posting . I am passing on this info incase anyone else can use it !
Keeping the Honda 2hsp air cooled engine on board to use for the Winter will not be a problem if engine is used frequently.
Before Winter season remove cover & spray WD 40 over entire engine . Add CRC engine store to gas (fuel stabilizer ) After each use ,before storing engine below deck or leaving it on engine mount, remove cover ,run engine & spray fogging oil into carborator ,turn off gas supply & let engine run until it stops ,keep engine upright to drain water out . If storing engine below deck place engine on side with the pads.

I understood that you had run it all summer.
What was recommended on the link is what I would have done,
before storing the kicker below deck. And that is what you
appear to have done also. Inspect, clean, dry, lube and store.
What I call yearly fall maintenance, ( Florida resident )
those that reside in the snowbelt call winterizing.
Same process, different names.
