Go to the US Coastguard website. Somewhere they have a formula for determining the approved hp rating for your boat.  A series of computations will determine the approved horse power for your craft. Hondas are very heavy for the hp output. You may want to stay well under the coast guard posted hp.

I just installed a 20 hp 4 stroke Yamaha 15 inch shaft on my 14 lowe and I would not want anything heavier. The motor weighs about 110 lbs. I moved gas tank to front of boat and I'm thinking of moving battery up front also. My boat is rated for a 25hp. A 2 stroke would be ok but not a 25 4 stroke, too heavy.
