I have a 1977 evinrude 85 horse motor and I am wondering where the water pump is on this motor and how difficult it is to replace. I finally got the boat running, it would not run in the water but it would run out of it and it started doing that all of a sudden. one day it ran fine the next time went out with the boat it would not run, I have found during my findings while trying to find out why it wouldnt run that while the motor was in a big tub of water it would get hot but when I ran a hose hooked up with the rabbit ears right on the engine that it ran cool. I am wondering if it is a water pump problem and that its too weak or doesnt work the way it should to just suck in the water to the motor the way its designed to. It has really been a pain in the neck and no one that works on them can seem to give me any helpful info.

Anything that anyone can offer that may help is greatly appreciated.

Evinrude parts catalog online has diagrams to show assemblies,

find your year, then the model, then the assembly needed

yours for the gearcase and waterpump is located here:

http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=9373d4b93238566c86145e2f5a52e110

Replacing a waterpump is not difficult, but you will need a shop manual

in order to assemble with the proper torque specifications.
