Hi everyone! I apologize in advance for the really basic nature of these questions, I've never owned anything besides a kayak or canoe before.
I got this boat for free, a family was giving it away. I think it's homemade, didn't see any obvious manufacturer markings on it. It looks something like a kayak, but with the seat against the back of the craft and no storage space. There's a steering wheel, which is still attached to wire/ropes that I believe will attach to an engine.
Here's the whole thing: (it might look child-sized in the picture, but it is big enough to hold an adult, I swear)
And the steering wheel, you can see a bit of how it's connected in the back:
This is a picture of the back end, where the engine would go:
I got some very suspect advice saying I'd need a 50 horsepower engine, but my own research says 5 horsepower is probably what I want. I plan to use the boat in ponds and lakes, mostly, not very deep. It should be able to move 200 pounds, if that makes a difference.
So my question is, how big of an engine do I need? And once there's consensus on that, where do I get one? I figured ebay and craigslist, but if there's an actual store with engines that won't break the bank, that would be even better. I assume that I'll have to manually attach whatever I get, I'm not too worried about that aspect.
Thanks for your forbearance and advice, everyone!

Looks like a minimax, see link below
http://www.glen-l.com/designs/outboard/minimaxed.html
Very simple plywood build for small horsepower.
5 to 7.5 hp outboard would be plenty.
For use in flat calm waters, any type of chop
and she'll get stuffed into a wave.

CapeCodBoatGirl,
Neat boat!
Just be careful, that puppy will be fast!
I'd sand the whole thing down and give it a good coat of epoxy inside and out, then a paint job. If it needs any repairs, post photos here and you'll get guidance.
It's not a very practical craft, but it should be fun!
