Here is an unusual design from the board of Bill Garden, more than 50 years ago. The idea was to have a small beachable boat with enough range and shallow draft to cruise the further out places like Desolation Sound and the nooks and crannies of the Inland Water Way of BC Canada.
IDLER has most of the amenities to camp cruise in comfort, and with the larger cabin windows one can observe the passing shore even in the rain. Garden has a nack for creating satisfying interior space with bunks, table, galley space with sink and stove, including a seperate seat and toilet room -- even with limited head room.
Though the engine shown is a 2 cylinder inboard, today one might replace the outbaord rudder with one of the smaller high thrust 4-cycle Yamaha's outboards. Though top speed would be limited, economy and comfort would be maximized.
IDLER's particulars: LOA 22' & Beam 7'.
