Jon Atkin’s “Ninigret” is a fine example of a soft riding V bottom outboard Bassboat/Camper Cruiser. Designed more than 35 years ago for a fisherman in Rhode Island to  pursue the wiley Bluefish found along the shores of the eastern seaboard. The boat has a fine bow section, is not too wide, and slips along in the teens and early 20’s speed range with a 30 to 45 hp. outboard hung in the hatched over motorwell. The 8’ plus cockpit and the sheltered generous 6’ 2” V-Berth/Seat under the soft top cabin (with water closet) give this craft a nice value for the effort spent to build her.

In the early ‘90’s John Atkin actually had a “Ninigret” built for himself. John states: “I choose to have this boat built for my personal use because of her simplicity, her good handling qualities in varying sea conditions, and the relatively low cost of materials and labor needed to build her.” “Ninigret” has a warped-plane V bottom hull suitable for plywood, there is no deadrise at her transom and the chine is parallel to the water line from station #6 (pilot seat).

“Ninigret” Particulars: LOA 22’ 1 / 4”, Waterline Length 20’, Beam at the Sheer 6’ 8”, Draft 1’, Trailer Weight 2025 Lbs., Power Outboard 30 to 45 Hp., Cruising Speed 14 Knots.
