Skeeter is a small flat bottomed tunnel stern design from the board of C.A. Nedidek. The shallow draft allows for scooting about on skinny water and the open configuration would make a fine fishing and duck hunting boat. Though originally designed for plank-on-frame construction, this design with it’s gently flaring sides and building stations remaining as frames, lends itself to plywood with glass over construction.

Note the tunnel is the box type with the sides of the boat extending down further than the bottom chine to form “ears” or the sides of the tunnel.

The water cooled engine could be substituted with an air-cooled small gas engine of the lawn mower type from Briggs & Stratton, Robin Subaru, Tecumseh, Wisconsin, Honda and the like. See the Small Engine Warehouse for some ideas. As to the engine conversion one needs to acquire Cap’t Woodie Owen’s Marine Conversion Manual for small gas engines available for $10.95 at PO Box 32172-B, Charleston, SC 29417. With 10 to 12 horsepower (or less with a plywood build) Skeeter should maintain a steady 10 mph.

Skeeter’s Particulars: LOA 16 ft.,  Beam at Sheer 4’ 6”,  Draft 9 ½”,  Height at Bow 26”,  Height at the Stern 22”. Displacement Unknown. Plans Packet available from D.N. Goodchild, Design # 5421.
